Back To Hockey 2011
The Surrey Spartans are committed to increasing participation throughout the Guildford community. As part of this we have signed up to take part in England Hockey's "Back to Hockey" initiative. The programmes will take place at different times of the year. The first of which is now underway.
"Back to Hockey" is particularly aimed at people who currently do not play hockey but have played hockey before at school, college or university, or perhaps in a club or work team, and who might want to come back to hockey through the right programme.
We also welcome new participants to try hockey for the first time. It will provide you with a great opportunity to make new friends and enjoy training and playing in a friendly and relaxed environment.
Every Back to Hockey session will help you to relearn, refresh and replay the game and provide you with opportunities to continue to play, whether for fun or as part of a competitive team.
Back to Hockey is a multi session programme which will introduce you back to the game or will give you the basic introduction if you haven't played before without the pressure to perform.
Just fill out the Application Form and send it to chairman@surreyspartans.com
The next “Back to Hockey” sessions are yet to be announced.
Frequently Asked Questions.

No. There is no expectation that you will be fit. Back to Hockey coaches will take into account your level of fitness when planning and delivering each session. The activities you take part in during the session may help you improve your fitness over time.
How much does it cost?
There is a small charge (£20) to go towards the cost of running the sessions.
When does it take place?
There are currently no back to hockey sessions scheduled. Please see our other promotions that we are currently offering.
How do I book?
To book a place on the programme send an email to Lowell Lewis (Chairman@surreyspartans.com)
What do I need to wear?
Wear whatever you will be comfortable playing hockey in, recognising that you will be stretching and exercising. For footwear wear standard trainers, or astro turf boots if you have a pair. If you still have shin pads from when you previously played hockey then bring them too, but they are not essential at the start.
Do I need my own hockey stick or equipment?
No, we can provide all of the equipment. Though if you have your own stick then bring it along.
Can I come on my own?
Yes of course. Individuals or groups of friends are all welcome.
Where does it take place?
The sessions will be run at the Surrey Sports Park at the University of Surrey in Guildford (GU2 7AD). We will be using the artificial pitch at the back of the facility (AGP2). Ask at reception for directions to the pitch.
Are there changing facilities and toilets available?
There will be changing facilities available in the Surrey Sports Park. Please ask at reception for directions. Toilets are also located within the Surrey Sports Park.
Can I get refreshments during or after the session?
We recommend that you bring your own soft drink or water with you for the drinks breaks during the session itself. There are drinks vending machines within the Surrey Sports Park as well as Starbucks and the Bench Bar.
