New Ladies and Mens Coaches Required
SURREY SPARTANS HOCKEY CLUB is a growing club based in Guildford, Surrey. Formed in 2010 to help make hockey more accessible to the local community the club has grown year on year and now has 4 Mens Teams and 2 Ladies Teams. As a community club The Surrey Spartans are active supporters of engagement programs and regularly involved in delivering community sessions. These sessions are used to help develop newly qualified coaches and the Ladies Coach would be expected to help mentor them as they develop their coaching skills.
Mens Coach:
The Mens 1st XI narrowly missed out in a second promotion in the 2011/12 season, whilst the Mens 2nd XI and 3rd XI have also achieved promotions in the past 3 seasons. The club is now looking for a new coach for the Mens squads to help develop players of all abilities.
The appointed coach would be responsible for:
• Leading Mens Spartans Training Sessions (Thursdays 8:30-10pm)
• Attending the Spartans Mens Home Matches (Saturdays 2-5:30pm)
• Mentoring the assistant coaches
Ladies Coach:
The Ladies 1st XI narrowly missed out on a second promotion in a row in the 2012/13 season, whilst the club also added a second Ladies team. We are therefore now looking to find a coach to help develop the ladies squads and help them continue climbing the Surrey Leagues.
The appointed coach would be responsible for:
• Leading Ladies Spartans Training Sessions (Thursdays 7-8:30pm)
• Attending the Spartans Ladies Home Matches (Saturdays 12:30-2pm)
• Mentoring the assistant coaches
Application Deadline: 30th June 2013

2012-13 Season Round-Up
The 2012/13 season on the face of it may not have been as successful as last year however as we sit back and reflect on the year there is definately still alot to shout about.
Lets start with a huge well done to the newest members of the Spartans family....the Ladies 2nd XI. This was the first season that we fielded 2 ladies teams and although numbers may have been tight some weekends, it meant that we were able to more than double the number of ladies able to play hockey this year. The Ladies 1st XI also deserve recognition for consolidating last year's promotion by finishing 4th in their league this season. These two things will hopefully provide a solid base on which the ladies can build next season.
Over on the Mens side of the club, it was also a different type of year from the last one. With over a third of the mens players retiring or moving on over the summer, the aim for the year was to rebuild the mens squads whilst trying to consolidate the 2 promotions achieved last season. The Mens 1st and 2nd XIs sucessfully managed to maintain their places in Surrey Division 1 and 3 respectively. Unfortunately achieving the same for the Mens 3rd XI was a step too far this year and they will be returning to Surrey Open Division 3 next season. The Mens 4th XI once again welcomed a raft of novice hockey players into the fold and finished in a very respectible mid-table position in their league.
The most significant thing about this season may not have been noticed by many people outside of the club. This year we saw the club's appeal broaden in the wider community and result in the largest number of new joiners we have ever had - 44 in total! This is something all members of the club should be really proud of as they are clearly making Surrey Spartans HC a friendly and welcoming club. Lets see if we can do even better next season!!
Now the league matches are over we can all look forward to putting our feet up....or can we? This summer the club plans to continue promoting hockey in the community so if you are interested in getting involved get in touch. If we can recruit well over the summer there is no reason why 2013/14 cant be our biggest and best year yet!
